Ashley Henry

Joe Magowan was given the task of making a set of press-images for new Silvertone signing, jazz pianist Ashley Henry. Inspired by Ashley’s arrangement of golden-era hip-hop track ‘The World Is Yours’ by Nas (which prior to sampled jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal’s ‘I Love Music’), Joe decided to create a set of images that reflected Ashley’s love of golden-era hip-hop, whilst also conveying the South London jazz scene that Ashley grew up in. To achieve this, Joe shot Ashley around his local neighbourhood of Crystal Palace, focussing mostly on wide-angle shots typical of golden-era hip-hop videos and press-shots by the likes of Spike Lee and Eddie Otchere.
