Stripped Back Fashion

In-house photographer Joe Magowan was asked to make a set of press images for electronic group Mad Teeth, prior to the release of their first single Saucin’.  The artists wanted the images to have a stripped-back, fashion/editorial feel, and sent over a set of references that included images by Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon and Patrick Lichfield. Joe kept to this aesthetic by using harsh, directional lighting favoured by 1970s fashion and portrait photographers, and employed Irving Penn’s technique of placing the subjects at different heights to create a dynamic group shot. The styling provided by Betsy-Blue English ensured the final images did not look too retro and gave them a modern feel.
